Terms & conditions.

The basics of how lessons, mentorship and other services work – what you can expect from us, and what we ask in return.

Last updated: April 2026 · Version 1.0

1. About these terms

These terms apply to every lesson, mentorship plan, mix session and download offered through The Sound Lab. By booking a session or signing up to a service, you agree to them.

The Sound Lab is a music tuition business based in Lincoln, United Kingdom, run by Ben Elding. References to "we", "us" and "our" mean The Sound Lab. References to "you" mean the student or customer.

2. Booking and payment

Single sessions and blocks are booked by email or via the contact form. A confirmation email locks the session in.

Payment is taken in advance – single sessions before the booking, blocks before the first session of the block. Prices are quoted in GBP and include VAT where applicable.

Block packages must be used within 6 months of the first session unless otherwise agreed.

3. Cancellation and rescheduling

By you: sessions rescheduled with more than 48 hours' notice carry no charge. Cancellations or reschedules with less than 48 hours' notice are charged at the full session rate.

By us: if we have to cancel, we'll reschedule at no charge or refund the session in full.

No-shows: sessions missed without notice are charged at the full rate.

For 3-, 6- and 12-month mentorship plans, a 30-day notice period applies before cancellation.

4. Refunds

Single sessions are non-refundable once delivered.

Unused sessions in a pre-paid block can be refunded pro-rata up to 14 days after purchase. After 14 days, blocks can be paused but not refunded.

If you're unhappy with a session, tell us within 7 days and we'll work with you to put it right.

5. Online sessions and technology

Online sessions are delivered over Zoom or similar. You're responsible for having a working internet connection, camera, audio interface and screen-share setup. We'll help you dial it in on the first call.

Sessions are recorded for your reference and shared after the call. Recordings are private and may not be redistributed.

6. Studio sessions

The Lincoln studio is a private space – please arrive on time and respect the gear. You're welcome to use any of the synths, drum machines and outboard during sessions, supervised by Ben.

Damage to gear caused by negligent use may be charged at repair cost. The studio is non-smoking. Drinks must be in lidded containers.

7. Mixing and mastering work

Stem-based mix work includes one round of revisions. Additional revisions are charged at our hourly rate.

You retain full copyright and ownership of your music. We claim no rights, no co-writes, and no royalties.

We may, with your permission, use a short audio snippet for portfolio purposes. We'll always ask first.

8. Resources and sample packs

Free sample packs from our Resources page are licensed for unlimited personal and commercial music production. You may not redistribute, repackage or resell the raw samples as your own sample library.

Download links are for personal use only.

9. Intellectual property

All content on this website – text, design, graphics and code – belongs to The Sound Lab unless otherwise stated. You may not reproduce or distribute it without written permission.

10. Limitation of liability

We're not liable for any indirect or consequential losses arising from our services. Our total liability to you in any circumstance is limited to the amount you paid for the service in question.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot legally be excluded.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by English law. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales.
