How The Sound Lab collects, uses and protects your personal information when you visit the site or book a session with us.
Last updated: April 2026 · Version 1.0
Who we are
The Sound Lab ("we", "us", "our") is a music tuition business based in Lincoln, United Kingdom. We are the data controller responsible for any personal information you share with us through this website or when booking sessions. If you have any questions about this policy, you can reach us at hello@sound-lab.co.uk.
What we collect
We only collect the information we need to run lessons and stay in touch. That includes:
• Contact details – your name, email address, phone number, and anything you write in our enquiry form. • Session information – your goals, gear setup, and notes from sessions, kept so we can pick up where we left off. • Resource downloads – your name and email if you sign up to receive a free sample pack from our Resources page. • Site analytics – anonymous usage data (pages visited, device type, country) so we can understand how the site is used.
We do not collect special-category data, payment card numbers (those are handled by our payment provider), or anything else you don't actively give us.
Why we use it
• To respond to your enquiry and arrange a free intro call. • To deliver the lesson, mentorship or sample pack you've signed up for. • To send occasional updates about new lessons, releases or resources – only if you've opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time. • To improve the website and our services. • To meet our legal and tax obligations as a UK business.
Lawful basis
Under UK GDPR, we rely on three lawful bases to process your information:
• Contract – when you book a lesson or service, we process your data to deliver it. • Consent – for marketing emails, sample-pack downloads, and any optional communications. • Legitimate interest – for basic site analytics and to keep our records.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your data. We use a small number of trusted third parties to run our business, and we share only what those services need to do their job:
• Email and calendar (Google Workspace) for replying and scheduling sessions. • Email marketing platform for the optional newsletter and resource downloads. • Payment provider (e.g. Stripe) for processing session payments. • Website hosting and analytics providers.
All providers are contractually required to handle your data in line with UK GDPR.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry and session data for as long as you're an active student, and for up to six years after our last interaction so we can meet HMRC record-keeping requirements. Marketing-list data is kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You have the right to:
• Access the personal data we hold on you. • Ask us to correct anything that's wrong. • Ask us to delete your data, where we're not legally required to keep it. • Object to or restrict processing. • Withdraw consent for marketing at any time. • Lodge a complaint with the ICO (ico.org.uk) if you believe your data has been mishandled.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@sound-lab.co.uk.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep the site working, and optional analytics cookies to understand traffic. You can decline non-essential cookies at any time via the banner or your browser settings.

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of the page will reflect when it was last updated. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
