Built by a working artist, for the next wave.
The Sound Lab is a dedicated music production and DJ education platform – founded by Ben Elding to bridge the gap between learning and the real industry. Every lesson is 1-to-1, fully personalised, and grounded in active touring, releasing and label experience.
From bedroom to booth.
The Sound Lab started with a simple frustration: most music education sits a long way from the actual industry. Theory in one room, the scene in another. The two need to meet.
What sets us apart is real-world foundation. Everything taught here is backed by proven experience, industry connections, and a deep understanding of what it actually takes to succeed – finishing tracks that get signed, building sets that hold a room, releasing music with intent rather than hope.
Our mission is straightforward: empower the next generation of artists with the tools, knowledge and opportunities to build sustainable careers in electronic music. Hands-on teaching, direct mentorship, and a studio environment that treats you like a peer – not a customer.
Meet Ben Elding.

A career in underground electronic music.
Ben's sound sits at the intersection of hypnotic grooves, intricate rhythms and emotive melodies – crafted to create a narrative that mirrors the intensity of the moment. Deliberately rooted in the underground while pushing forward, with releases on respected labels including Shen earning wider recognition.
Behind the booth, he's shared line-ups with globally respected artists including Sasha, John Digweed, Franky Wah, Maceo Plex, Cristoph, Nick Warren and Ivory – performing across the UK and internationally, including Ibiza. That experience shapes a refined, high-level approach to DJing built on reading the room, controlling energy, and delivering unforgettable sets.
He founded The Sound Lab to do exactly that for the next wave – a platform built on real-world experience, industry connections and the practical knowledge it takes to build a sustainable career in music.
